[Original article, 6th September 2010:]
While going to the movies won't be factoring into the minds of most Cantabrians after Saturday's earthquake, here's an update on temporary cinema closures...
* All Hoyts Cinemas (Moorhouse, Northlands, Riccarton, Regen on Worcester) are closed until the buildings are deemed safe.
* Rialto Christchurch is closed at least until Wednesday.
* Reading The Palms is temporarily closed until further notice.
* Picturehouse Cinemas in Kaiapoi is closed. The building has been deemed safe, though water is still of in Kaiapoi. The cinema will open when water services resume.
We haven't been able to get in touch with some of the other cinemas, but the Christchurch CBD is currently closed off.
Wishing the city and its people a speedy recovery.

@David, you're most accurate bet would be to give them a call directly. Their number is (03) 375 7080. Good luck!
By Ed-FlicksHi, I am currently a University student studying a course on natural disasters and checking to see how long various stores were closed for once the first Earthquake hit Christchurch. I see above that the Reading Cinemas in Palms was closed until further notice. Would anyone by any chance know what date the Reading Cinema opened after the first earthquake hit in September 2010 and how long it was closed for?? Thanks
By David
