When they decide to take a break from their borefest tour ("the worst tour in all of Paris") and sneak into the lobby of a five-star hotel, one of them is mistaken for a British heiress. I LOVED THIS MOVIE AND I'M A HUGE SELENA GOMEZ FAN, I LOVED THAT SHE COULD PLAY TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS AND BOTH PLAY THEM SO WELL IS JUST FANTASTIC.

If Hollywood had stuck closer to Bass’s novel, this would have been a Shirley Valentine-sequel tale starring Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman. Instead we have a polo scene inspired by the former’s Pretty Woman and the Aussie star solely on producing duties for this The Princess Diaries meets The Lizzie Maguire Movie slice of tween wish fulfillment.
Sure, the characters may all be over 18, but the near squeaky clean and chaste mix of Euro hunks, serious bling and shoe porn is clearly aiming at those yet to fully embrace high school. Following in the footsteps of fellow Disney alumni Lohan, Duff and Cyrus, Gomez, in her first adult role, has a certain sweet onscreen charm but seems destined to play 18 for the next decade.
Writer-director Bezucha seems less concerned about plot and more about hiding the fact most of the film was shot in Hungary, showcasing costumes, and hammering home life lessons – Gomez’s character quotes Gandhi – twice, even though the movie seems to be saying to the kids that it’s okay to impersonate someone for your own personal gain.
More than a little predictable, this so-so effort is also hampered by one of the oddest score’s in recent history that sounds like it’s been lifted from The Love Boat. Michael Giacchino clearly Lost his way on this one.
